My crocheted New Year

I want to wish everyone a great big HAPPY NEW YEAR! I sincerely hope that 2013 brings you all great blessings, wonderful events, and peace! 2012 was kind of boring for our little family, but I'll take that over turbulent challenging years. :-) I've written out some goals I want to accomplish this year and tacked them up on the wall next to the computer. I'm not saying resolutions because those go away about as fast as you create them. So  by saying goals, it's just a shift in my thinking I suppose. It's only day 3 of the new year, and so far so good...we'll see how the other 362 days go! :-)

I know I've kind of been MIA for the last little while. That crazy busyness of the holidays gets me every time. I'm also in kind of a blogging slump...where I have no fresh new ideas, and my crafty side has decided to go on vacation. (It went to Mexico and decided to leave me behind...I'm a tad bitter...)

So with that it feels like "whats the point" in blogging...so it becomes a chore instead of something fun.

But today I got the bug and decided to give it a whirl. I updated the header to my winter theme (LOVE IT!) and then thought maybe I'd post a picture of a project that I have been able to accomplish.

I've been crocheting since I was 13. I haven't really done anything besides a simple straight stitch and made one hideous afghan that I finished after I got married. (I put it in the dog's bed which she promptly chewed to tiny bits. It was a fitting end...the thing was awful!)

However since my crafty side just up and left for Mexico without so much as a note, I've been wondering what I could do to keep busy. While keeping busy job searching and doing all the holiday stuff, I found myself so tired at the end of the day all I wanted to do was curl up with some Netflix and Diet Coke. So I did just that...and then remembered I could crochet to keep my hands busy. Two birds with one stone. Lazy and productive! I love it! So the bug hit me...and I started crocheting granny squares. And then when I got so many of them they were taking over my bedroom the idea hit to make them into an afghan. Hopefully not one that the dog will chew up this time...And so that's what I worked on...and this is the result...

Sorry the pictures are so bad, I took them late at night, with my phone, and didn't care how they turned out!
I love this thing for a few reasons. 1. It looks cute. 2. I actually finished a project. 3. It's warm! 4. It's the perfect size to cover you while you nap on the sofa or read a book.

I was going to add a few more rows of edging, but got lazy and decided this was good enough.

A pic of it thrown over the chair in my living room. Sorry the pic is crap...

I have a ton more crochet projects to share with you that I've been working on, but I'll save those for later.

Hope you all had a great holiday season, and are now enjoying our lovely snowy (at least in Utah) winter!

It looks great! My crocheting is awful! LOL I have managed to crochet an apron for my dish soap bottle, and it is very lopsided!
