Okay guys so here's the situation: I was just given an antique dresser that has been in my family for at least 20 years. My mom bought it thinking she'd paint it and make it look nice. It has just been used the way it is for the last 20 years...and now it's mine and I want to actually redo it.
The problem is...what should I do? I want to keep it looking a little antique-ish but I'm not big on antique in my home decor, I'm a really modern kind of girl. I'm also running into a snag of I've never redone a dresser or anything like this before, so I'm a big fat waffle in decisions.
So here's the dresser.
As you can see, it needs some love. It also comes with the frame and glass for an attached mirror...just not attached yet. I've done some Pinterest browsing and an idea is forming in my head, but I honestly have no idea if it will work or be something good. So check out what my idea is and FEEDBACK FEEDBACK FEEDBACK!
I'm thinking of redoing the dresser like this:
Black on the top and sides where the brown is on this picture, and purple (because I love that color) for the drawers in this shade.
And then doing some modern hardware like this
What do you guys think of that idea? Some people say to just strip it and go with wood finish, but I really don't like that in my decor...it won't match! So this is the best thing I can come up with for the moment.
Feedback? Ideas, concerns?
