Summer Fun & Beach Bags

First off I'd like to apologize for being MIA for the last couple months. After quickly finishing my sister's wedding quilt I got a bit burnt out. I decided to take a break and then that break turned into "well maybe tomorrow" syndrome. But today...I picked up the yoke (well rotary cutter) and got back in the game (behind the sewing machine)

I went shopping with my mom a few weeks back for some material to make some beach bags out of. The summer season was fast approaching and so I decided what an excuse to play with fabric! Now we're smack dab in the middle of said season and I've had nothing to cart our stuff around in. Today I said "enough" and made an awesome duffel-beach-carry all our stuff- bag!

I know the color isn't technically a summer/beach color, but I'm obsessed with purple...get over it. Also, I didn't really follow any pattern. I just started and did things on the fly. I guess you could say I created my own pattern, but that makes me sound so much more talented than I really am...so we'll just say I winged it.

Started off with these two fantastical purple colors that called to me at the store. They knew they were destined for something great...

Next I made some handles...I would tell you how but I'm too lazy...Two short and one super long fling over your body type.

Then I made a pocket and attached it to the lining of the inside bag. Again I'd tell you how, but I really don't feel like it...lets just say I did it with magic! :-)

At this point I became way too involved in the project to stop and take more pictures...I really wanted to but got really consumed with it...lol so from here on in use your imagination and....

POW!

It really is a great bag, I was able to fit four huge beach towels inside and still have room for flip flops, water bottles, keys, cell phones, etc. I think it turned out wonderful, and the best part?

My husband gets to carry the girly purple bag all over Seven Peaks next week! :P

LOVE!! I love purple, too! My favorite part is that you did it with magic :) And FYI, you ARE that talented, so OWN it!!

I have magic coming out of unknown places so I have to put it to good use somewhere. And I guess I'll own it, I'm renting everything else...

I LOVE this bag! And why isn't purple a beachy colour? It's perfect - and won't get lost in the sand! :)
